Two Broad Types of Mesothelioma

mesothelioma and other cancers, can be divided into two broad groups:. Benign and malignant
Benign mesothelioma refers to a non-cancerous tumors usually develop in the pleura (the cells lining around the lungs). The main difference between benign and cancerous form is that the former does not spread to other tissues. However, symptoms and benign and malignant form of the same and it is often difficult to distinguish the two except the lung biopsy. However, less than 10% of mesothelioma cases are benign. In half the cases of benign mesothelioma, there are no symptoms at all.
Patients can learn from the disease through a routine X-ray scans of the lungs. In the second half, benign mesothelioma symptoms include chest pain, chronic cough and fever. However, the most distinguished characteristic is the presence of clubbed fingers. This occurs when oxygen levels in the blood falls resulting in distorted angles of the nail bed. Benign mesothelioma treatment is relatively easy. It involves removing the tumor surgically. Patients must still have regular check-ups and chest x-rays to ensure that benign mesothelioma does not develop into malignant form.
Malignant mesothelioma is the most common form of the disease. This type of mesothelioma can be further classified into a place where a malignant tumor derived or produced the type of cancer cells. The classification of the location of the cancer gives three kinds of mesothelioma cancer:
(i) Pleural mesothelioma: This occurs in the protective lining and cavity of the lungs. Most of the symptoms associated with it occur due to accumulation of fluid between the chest and the lining of the lungs (pleural effusion is called). This results in difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath, persistent cough, coughing up blood and fever. This is the most common form of mesothelioma cancer are 75% of all cases
(ii) Peritoneal mesothelioma: the development of cancer of the stomach and trbuhu.Rak usually starts in the abdomen and spreads to other parts of the body. Symptoms are due to pressure from a tumor in the stomach and abdomen, causing abdominal pain, swelling, loss of appetite, vomiting, breathing problems, anemia and a host of other symptoms. Peritoneal mesothelioma accounts for 10-20% of mesothelioma cases.
(iii) Pericardial mesothelioma: This affects the lining of the heart cavity. Symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations. This is the rarest form of mesothelioma, representing less than 10% of cases.
Another way to classify the type of mesothelioma is a cancer cell that arise. There are basically two types of mesothelioma cells: epitheloid and sarcomatoid. Epitheloid cells arise in the lining of organs jedini.Ĺ anse for survival are greater with this type of cancer. Sarcomatoid cells are difficult to treat because it affects the secondary tissues such as bone, muscle, cartilage, etc. ... This type of cancer rarely responds to any form of treatment. In cases where both types of cells are formed, it is known as biphasic mesothelioma.
